A great morning routine for the working-from-home woman

Even though most of us are working from home during the pandemic, it is still important to have a routine in place to start kickstart your day in the right direction. Putting some time aside in the morning for your routine is one of the best things you can do for yourself to start your day successfully.

01

First things first- drink water

After a night of sleep, your body and skin is likely to be dehydrated. Water is a very important component not just for beauty but for a healthy lifestyle as well. Drink a big glass of water first thing in the morning before you indulge in your morning coffee.
02

Quiet time

Set your alarm early and try to wake up before the rest of the people in your household. This time is ideal for some quiet time. Read your bible, journal, pray or meditate. This will set clear and positive intentions for your day.
03

Eat protein for breakfast

It is super important not to skip breakfast! Opt for a protein rich breakfast with eggs, a protein shake or greek yoghurt. You will stay fuller for longer plus protein is great for your hair and skin.
04

Do a 15 minute yoga or exercise sesh

I love doing yoga in the morning, even if it is just for 15 minutes. It helps my body to wake up and get all the juices flowing. Even 15 minutes of exercise and moving your body is better than nothing. It might feel like nothing, but doing this everyday will eventually add up to a healthier and stronger you!
05

Take a quick shower

Even if you don’t feel like taking a shower because “no one is even going to see me today”, still hop in the shower girl! Wash your face with a good cleanser, brush your teeth, wash your hair. It will make you feel fresh and ready for the day in an instant.
06

Moisturise & sunscreen

Moisturise your whole face and body the moment you get out of that shower. The lotion will absorb instantly into your skin. Oh, and always always always put sunscreen on your face! Get an oil free SPF if you are prone to breakouts.

07

Get dressed

Don’t fall into the trap of getting back into your pyjamas again. Do yourself a favour and get dressed, even if it is just your fave comfy loungewear or a tracksuit. You will feel better and it will help you be more productive.
08

Dry shampoo is my bestie

If you know that you will not have time to wash your hair, put some dry shampoo in your hair before you go to bed. It will absorb into your hair during the night and result in amazing volume in the morning. Even if you work from home and don’t feel like washing your hair, comb it out and put it in a nice bun. You will feel better and ready to attack your day.
09

Put a little makeup on

Even though you might not be going anywhere today except for the grocery store, put a little makeup on. Even if it’s just bb cream, blush, mascara and a natural lipstick. You will feel a little bit more put together.
10

Plan your day

Make all your to-do lists and shopping lists. Prioritise the things you need to do today and start with the things that you find most challenging when you have the most energy for it in the morning.
11

Social media and emails

Now that breakfast, exercise and the rest is checked off the list, you can start reading emails and go on social media. I have learnt that if I hop on social media thing in the morning instead of following the other steps first, I dive into an online scrolling loop from hell. And that can go on for way too long and makes me feel very unproductive.

Remember- there is no such thing as the perfect morning routine. If you prefer doing exercise in the evenings or want to take a bath at night, that is good too! Just figure out what works for you and gets you energised and excited for your day.
